22 million toys recalled after dozens report skin burns, irritation

Los Angeles-based toy company MGA Entertainment is recalling a line of miniature toy model sets due to a potentially dangerous ingredient.

The company is recalling its line of Make It Mini sets because they contain liquid resin acrylates that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation or sensitization when inhaled, touched, or ingested.

According to Newsweek, the recall includes approximately 21 million Miniverse sets sold in the U.S. and another 1 million sets sold in Canada. While the resins may be hazardous in liquid form, MGA Entertainment said that the sets present no risk when the resins were cured and hardened.

The recalled sets were sold at Target, Walmart, Family Dollar, Dollar General, ALDI, Hobby Lobby and other stores nationwide, and online at Amazon.com, shop.mgae.com, Target.com, Walmart.com and other sites from October 2022 through June. The recalled sets include the “Make It Mini Appliances,” all models and series of “Make It Mini Food,” and “Make It Mini Lifestyle.”

According to a notice on the Consumer Product Safety Commission website, MGA has received 26 reports of incidents involving the product from children and adults, including reports of skin burns and irritation, and respiratory issues with one report that a consumer’s asthma was triggered.

A full list of the recalled sets with UPC numbers is available on the Consumer Product Safety website.

Consumers who own the sets should immediately stop using the units with unused resins and contact MGA to receive a pre-paid label to return the products.
