A 21-year-old man was shot to death by police in Auburn late Monday night.

Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton identified the slain man as Amari Justin Young. He lived in Opelika.

The shooting happened at The Magnolia at Auburn apartments on Longleaf Drive. Young was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:21 p.m.

Sexton said his body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for autopsy.

Details of the shooting have not yet been released.

The State Bureau of Investigation will lead the probe, which is standard for officer-involved shootings. ALEA Lt. Jeremy Burkett said more information will be released later today.
