A woman was found shot to death in the driveway of her home in Birmingham’s Crestwood area.

Birmingham police identified the victim as Mia Nickson. She was 21.

East Precinct officers were dispatched at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday to a report of a person shot in the 800 block of Green Crest Turn, which is off Crestwood Boulevard.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said police arrived to find the wounded Nickson unresponsive in the driveway. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead on the scene.

The preliminary investigation, he said, indicates Nickson was outside of her home when the fatal shooting took place. The shooter or shooters then fled the scene.

There were other people inside the residence at the time, but they were uninjured.

No arrests have been made.

Nickson is Birmingham’s second homicide of 2024. In all of Jefferson County, there have been four homicides this year, including the two in Birmingham.
