A Bessemer man was shot to death Sunday night in an apparent assault.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the incident happened at about 8:52 p.m. in the 2600 block of 7th Avenue North in Bessemer.

Telik Ryheem Nevels, 21, of Bessemer, died at the scene of gunshot wounds.

Bessemer police are investigating the death as a homicide.
