2025 Masters odds: See the latest Masters betting odds for Scheffler, McIlroy and Aberg

CBS and ESPN have been teasing us with commercials for months, but the long wait is finally over. The 2025 Masters start this week, as the top golfers prepare to battle it out for a green jacket.

Scottie Scheffler won the Masters in 2024 and is favored to go back-to-back. Despite having zero victories at Augusta National Golf Club, Rory McIlroy is hot on Scheffler’s tail with the second-best odds to win the Masters.

Keeping up to date with Masters betting markets is crucial. If a favorite has a mediocre opening round, you could get much better odds than what was available before the tournament.

Or if you spot a long shot with a history of success at Augusta National, it’s best to wager before the first round because his odds may shrink after a hot start.

Below are the latest 2025 Masters odds for the top 15 players at BetMGM Sportsbook:

2025 Masters betting favorites

Scottie Scheffler (+450)

Scottie has finished T25 or better in every event this season but is still searching for his first win. He got close recently at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, finishing just one stroke behind winner Min Woo Lee.

Two of the last three Masters have gone to Scheffler, who ranks No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR). Another first-place finish in 2025 would make Scottie the first repeat winner since Tiger Woods in 2001 and 2002

Rory McIlroy (+650)

Rory has won three of the four majors, including two PGA Championship victories. He’s still chasing a green jacket and nearly captured it in 2022 with a second-place finish at the Masters. However, McIlroy has also failed to play the weekend in three of his last four trips to Augusta National.

Considering Rory’s current form, this could be his best shot at finally getting over the hump. He’s already won two events this year, edging out J.J. Spaun in a playoff at THE PLAYERS Championship last month.

Jon Rahm (+1400)

Joining LIV Golf in 2023 may result in less buzz surrounding Jon Rahm, but he still holds the third-best odds to win the Masters. Earlier that same year, Rahm beat out Phil Mickelson and Brooks Koepka to earn his first green jacket and second major championship.

The 2024 Masters were far less friendly, as Rahm had a disappointing T45 finish despite boasting the second-best pre-tournament odds. However, a comeback could be in store. Rahm is third in the LIV Golf standings and has placed T9 or better in every event this season.

Ludvig Aberg (+2000)

Course familiarity is key at Augusta National, but Ludvig Aberg didn’t let inexperience play a factor in his 2024 Masters debut. Aberg gave Scheffler a run for his money, earning a solo finish in second place.

The 25-year-old was generally unknown before last year’s Masters and is now ranked No. 5 in the OWGR. Winning a signature event (Genesis Invitational) earlier this season should give Aberg plenty of confidence when he returns to Augusta this week.

Xander Schauffele (+2200)

OWGR No. 3 Xander Schauffele had a reputation for being near the top of the leaderboard at major championships, but always coming up short. That changed in 2024 when Schauffele won the PGA Championship and the Open Championship.

Schauffele has only missed the cut once in seven appearances at Augusta National. He’s finished T10 or better in three of the past four Masters and was only one shot off the lead when Tiger claimed his fifth green jacket in 2019.

How the Masters odds are calculated

Sportsbooks are known for setting shockingly accurate betting lines. For a golf event like the Masters, mathematicians and statisticians help set the odds. The following factors also play a role in determining the odds for each betting market.

Factors affecting Masters odds

  • Past performances at Augusta National: Unlike the other majors that move to different courses each year, the Masters has been hosted at Augusta National since 1934. It’s one of the most difficult courses on Tour, so players who consistently shoot low tend to get shorter odds.
  • Recent form: Golf is a mental game, and strong showings in events leading up to the Masters can be a huge confidence booster. Sportsbooks take notice of players carrying positive and negative momentum into the Masters, and odds are set accordingly.
  • Player injuries/other external factors: Reports of a top player battling an injury heading into Masters week are bound to impact the odds. Another notable factor is the weather. Some players struggle mightily when it rains, and others actually prefer it. Golfers like McIlroy, Mickelson and Matt Fitzpatrick are known for taking a rainy round in stride.

How sportsbooks set the odds to win the Masters

Sportsbooks are more interested in making a profit and less interested in setting realistic odds. Oddsmakers know bettors will flock to popular players like Scheffler and McIlroy, which is why their odds are drastically shorter than the rest of the field.

That’s not to say Scottie and Rory don’t deserve to have the best Masters odds. They’re the top two players in the OWGR for a reason. However, the gap between the favorites and the rest of the field is rather large for a tournament including roughly 90 golfers.

Scheffler makes it look easy, but winning the Masters is extremely difficult. It’s important to remember that sportsbooks set odds with the goal of increasing profit. Sportsbooks hate when heavy favorites win at Augusta because it normally results in lost revenue.

Masters odds betting strategies

Identifying value bets

Bypassing the favorites with odds shorter than +1000 is a great way to find Masters wagers offering the best value. If you bet $10 on Scheffler’s +400 outright winner odds at DraftKings Sportsbook, the potential return is only $40. Betting the same amount on Collin Morikawa at +1800 odds could result in a $180 payout.

If you back a player with longer odds, they don’t have to win the tournament for you to enjoy a solid payday. Sportsbooks will likely offer a cash-out if your golfer is in the hunt when the Sunday round tees off. This allows you to accept a smaller but profitable payout rather than wait to see if your bet wins.

When searching for a bet providing strong value, it’s best to consider players with long but reasonable odds. Since 2010, no golfer has won the Masters with pre-tournament odds longer than +6000.

Finding a player who has performed well at Augusta National is my go-to for finding a long shot. For example, Cameron Smith’s outright winner odds are +5500 at bet365 Sportsbook. The Australian has finished T10 or better in four of the past five Masters. Three of which were top-six finishes.

If you prefer to play it a bit safer, you could wager on Smith to finish in the top five (+800 at bet365). A $10 bet on that market has a potential payout of $80.

Popular betting options at the Masters

Sportsbooks offer a ton of betting options for the Masters and other major championships. These are the most common bet types:

  • Outright winner: This wagering option is the easiest to understand, making it an ideal choice for first-time golf bettors. An outright winner bet simply requires you to choose which golfer will win the Masters. You can also wager on the outright winner after each round tees off, presenting value for a player who starts slow but climbs up the leaderboard after the opening round.
  • Finishing position: Predicting which player wins the Masters isn’t easy, and finishing position bets are a great alternative. You can wager on a player to finish in the top 5, 10, 20 or 40 of the final standings. One downside to finishing position betting is the “dead heat” rule. For example, if you bet a player to finish top 10, and he finishes in a tie for 10th, your payout is reduced.
  • Matchups: Also known as head-to-head, matchup markets list two or three players and you bet on which golfer has the lowest score in a given round. You can also wager on the player you think will shoot lower throughout the tournament.
  • Prop bets: The Masters is by far the most popular golf event of the year, and sportsbooks take advantage by unveiling a long list of prop betting markets. Options include predicting the nationality of the winning player, the over/under on a golfer’s score and the always popular “will there be a hole-in-one” prop.

Risk management and bankroll strategy

Understanding what you’re betting on is a key tenant of responsible gambling, and many of the Masters odds offered by sportsbooks could be confusing if you’re not an avid golf watcher.

I recommend starting with small bets on straightforward markets like outright winner or finishing position. Once you have a better understanding of golf betting, you could try wagering on some of the more complex markets.

Many of the popular Masters betting markets have plus odds, so it’s easy to get caught up in the possibility of earning a big payout. Setting a reasonable limit on the amount you can wager on the Masters is a great way to avoid going overboard. Once you reach that number, be prepared to hold yourself responsible and call it quits.

Masters odds history and trends

Past Masters winners and their odds

Odds courtesy of SportsOddsHistory.com:

Year Golfer Pre-tournament odds
2024 Scottie Scheffler +500
2023 Jon Rahm +1000
2022 Scottie Scheffler +1600
2021 Hideki Matsuyama +6000
2020 Dustin Johnson +800
2019 Tiger Woods +1200
2018 Patrick Reed +4000
2017 Sergio Garcia +3000
2016 Danny Willett +5000
2015 Jordan Spieth +1000

Most bettors gravitate toward the favorites when betting an outright winner. However, only two golfers with odds shorter than +1000 have won the tournament in the past 10 years.

But you also want to avoid scrolling too far down the odds board. Since 2015, no Masters champion had pre-tournament odds longer than +6000. Six of the previous 10 winners held odds ranging from +500 to +1600.

Scheffler is the odds leader for the 2025 Masters, but we haven’t seen a repeat champion in more than 20 years (2002). Plus, the green jacket has gone to just two pre-tournament favorites since 2005.

Key betting trends at the Masters

Keeping up with betting trends is especially important at the Masters because the event is always played at Augusta National. The course has gotten some slight tweaks to yardages and tee box placements in recent years, but bettors are still left with a clear view of what it takes to become a Masters champion.

Player age is an important detail to consider. In the previous 22 Masters, 19 winners were at least 27 years old. Augusta National has many unique features and it takes multiple Masters appearances to learn the ins and outs.

The Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) is a great reference point to help find the next Masters champion. Since 2000, 23 outright winners were top 30 in the OWGR. This is the most challenging Masters betting market to predict, but ensuring your golfer falls within that range can help narrow down the list of potential long shots.

Augusta National’s four par 5s present the best opportunities to shoot a birdie or better, giving well-rounded players a leg up on the competition. Five consecutive Masters winners entered the tournament ranked top 13 in par-5 scoring average.
