2024 5-star DB Ellis Robinson IV chooses Georgia over Tide

Ellis Robinson IV became the latest elite prospect in the class of 2024 to join the defending national champions. On Tuesday, Robinson went on ESPN College Gameday Live and announced his commitment to Georgia.

The IMG (Fla.) Academy standout is rated as the No. 1 cornerback in the 247Sports Composite rankings and 13th overall. His pledge gives Kirby Smart 10 recruits, eight of which are in the top 100. While the Bulldogs’ first championship under Smart in 2021 didn’t produce a program-changing boost on the recruiting trail, a second in a row has put Georgia in pole position for the No. 1 group next year.

“It meant a lot to him, me and my wife when he was going in for surgery, the whole staff, Kirby, Fran (Brown), (Will) Muschamp, they all called him,” Robinson’s father told 247Sports Steve Wiltfong. “Some of the recruiting girls called him and prayed with him on the phone before surgery. That was huge. That was something that showed they cared for him more than just a football player.”

Robinson released his final five on Dec. 31, including Alabama with LSU, Miami and Colorado. He visited Athens and Tuscaloosa multiple times throughout his junior season and spent the weekend of Jan. 14 at Georgia’s national title celebration. Along with Chilton County linebacker Demarcus Riddick (ranked 37th), the Bulldogs are building a stout defensive class.

The Tide has brought in 13 defensive players this cycle, including two-five star defensive backs. In 2024, Nick Saban’s group is ranked fifth with five commits. Clay-Chalkville cornerback Jaylen Mbakwe is the highest-rated defender, checking in as the No. 5 cornerback.
