20-year-old identified as man found fatally shot near Birmingham building
Authorities have released the name of a young man found shot to death near a Birmingham building.
Birmingham police identified the victim as Sheldon Deion Henry Jr. He was 20 and lived in Center Point.
Officers were dispatched at 7:17 a.m. Monday to a report of a person down in the 300 block of Second Avenue North. A passerby made the discovery and called police.
They arrived to find Henry unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office determined Henry had been shot.
No arrests have been made.
Henry is the city’s fourth homicide since Saturday, and the fifth in all of Jefferson County.
He is Birmingham’s 132nd homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and nine others have been ruled justified.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 184 homicides, including the 132 in Birmingham.
