A suspect has been arrested in the weekend shooting at a Bessemer gas station that left three men dead.

Raukeem Cunningham, 20, is charged with capital murder in the triple killing, Bessemer police announced Monday.

The shooting happened shortly after 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Citgo at 200 Fourth Avenue.

All three victims were pronounced dead on the scene.

Police identified the victims as Christopher Eddins, 25, Ronald Dixon Jr., 20 and Wesley Fowler, 40.

Det. Justin Burmeister said at least two of the victims were at the store together, and he was unsure about the third. They had not been there long when someone inside of a vehicle opened fire on them.

The shooting started outside in the parking lot and continued inside the store, Burmeister said.

“We believe there is more than one shooter,’’ he said.

It appeared the shooters got out of their car and followed the victims into the store, still shooting.

Multiple shots were fired. Much of the shooting was captured on store surveillance videos.

Burmeister said the shooting wasn’t random – at least one of the victims was targeted. A motive has not yet been confirmed.

Investigators are still looking for more possible suspects, he said.

The shooting was one of two over the weekend in Bessemer that involved multiple victims.

Just after 10 p.m. Sunday, three men were shot while sitting in a pickup truck in the parking lot of a small strip of businesses along busy Ninth Avenue North. All three men were taken to UAB Hospital, two of them with life-threatening injuries.

That investigation is also ongoing.

Cunningham will be held without bond.

Friday’s deadly shooting is Bessemer’s first triple homicide in recent memory, and the 7th, 8th, and 9th this year.

In all of Jefferson County in 2024, there have been 139 homicides, including the nine in Bessemer.
