2 women indicted in separate Birmingham killings

Two women have been indicated in separate fatal shootings in Birmingham.

A Jefferson County grand jury indicted Sabrina Andrews, 20, on capital murder, and Asia Askew, 31, on murder. The indictments were issued April 13 and made public on Tuesday.

Andrews is charged in the Labor Day 2022 shooting death of Keondra Ra’Shun “Keke” Hollis, a beloved barber.

The 23-year-old was killed that Monday in the parking lot of University Crossings apartments in the 200 block of Third Avenue S.W.

Police said there had been a verbal altercation between multiple people throughout the day, and that is what led to the shooting.

Hollis and her brother had gone to the apartment complex that day to pick up her brother’s vehicle.

Andrews is charged with capital murder because police say the fatal shots were fired from a vehicle.

Hollis was an avid basketball player for most of her life, and a graduate of Midfield High School.

Andrews was initially arrested Sept. 7, 2022, and released from jail two months later. Her bond remains set at $150,000, according to court records.

Officers responded just before 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021, to 7564 66t Street South after a woman called 911 reporting she had just shot and killed a man.

Askew is charged with murder in the Dec 14, 2021, shooting death of Frank Winston.

Officers responded just before 8 p.m. that Tuesday to 7564 66th Street South.

The victim was found dead on the floor of a Gate City apartment after Askew called 911 to report she had had shot someone.

Police at the time said they found Winston on the apartment floor with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service.

Askew was taken into custody at the scene and underwent questioning. The indictment states Winston was shot with a rifle.

She was later charged on Feb. 2, 2022, and released from jail on April 2, 2022. Her bond remains set at $150,000.

Trial dates have not been set in either case.
