2 shootings in Phenix City lead to 2 deaths, one critical injury

Two separate shootings overnight in Phenix City led to the death of two people and another who was critically injured.

The first shooting occurred at 8:50 p.m. Friday night at the Dollar General located at 109 Seal Road. Matthew Brooks III, 28 years old, was found dead at the scene.

At 3:14 a.m. on Saturday morning, another shooting occurred in the city of nearly 40,000 people.

Officers responded to a call to the 1000 block of North Railroad St., where Travis Oakley, 39 years of age, and Latasha Williamson, 47 years of age, were found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to the Phenix City police, Oakley died from his injuries after being transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital. Williamson is still in critical condition.

Both investigations are ongoing.
