2 people injured in 2 dog attacks in east Alabama city in 1 day, reward offered

Two people were injured in separate dog attacks Sunday in one east Alabama city.

Valley Police Chief Mike Reynolds said the city is offering a $1,000 reward for information that leads to the apprehension of the dogs and the identity of the animals’ owners.

Both attacks happened in the Fairfax community.

The first happened at 4:35 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of U.S. Highway 29, injuring Alesha Michelle Dawson.

Reynolds said a passing motorist saw the attack happening, was able to scare off the dogs and take Dawson to the hospital.

Dawson was admitted to the hospital, but the severity of her injuries was not immediately known.

The second attack was reported at 9:52 a.m. in on River Road.

Dustin Jerrold Hobbs was walking on the Rails to Trails when he was attacked.

Again, a passing motorist scared away the dogs and Hobbs was taking to the hospital. He was treated and released.

Reynolds said the dogs in both cases were described as a brindle Pitbull and a Rottweiler.

“It is unknown if these are feral animals or if they belong to someone in the area,’’ Reynolds said

Officers have increased patrols in the area and Animal Control has set out several traps.

The chief is asking residents of the Fairfax community to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings if they need to be outside.

Anyone who spots the dogs is asked to immediately call 911. Anyone with information on who may own the animals is asked to call the Valley Police Department at 334-756-5200 or Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP,1-833-AL1-STOP, or email at www.215stop.com.
