Two people were killed in a Marion County wreck Friday when a pickup truck struck a bicyclist then caught on fire.

Carl R. Blewett, 54, of Kents Store, Va., died when the bicycle he was riding was hit by the 2009 GMC Sierra driven by Carroll R. Parker, 61, of Lynn in nearby Winston County.

After hitting Blewett, authorities said Parker’s vehicle left the road, struck a tree, and ignited. Both people died at the scene.

The crash happened on U.S. 278 near the 10-mile marker, about one mile east of Hamilton.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Patrol Division continue to investigate the incident.
