2 men found shot to death at abandoned Birmingham house; 2 men detained
A double homicide investigation is underway after Birmingham police found two men shot to death at an abandoned house Thursday night in Inglenook.
Two men have been detained in connection with the deadly shootings, police said.
East Precinct officers responded to a shots fired call around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the 4400 block of 41st Place North, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Officers went to the back area of an abandoned house where they found a man shot and lying unresponsive in the driveway.
Police found a second victim inside the house following a search of the area.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced both victims dead.
Officers at the scene found a third man who was then detained by authorities.
Responding officers discovered a fourth man walking in the area and detained him as well, Fitzgerald said.
A stolen vehicle was recovered at the scene.
“Right now, we are unsure of who is who – whether the victims were originally suspects; did the victims fire shots?” said Fitzgerald. “This is a scene that is going to take time and time to uncover.”
Police determining if the shooting occurred outside the house.
Officers are treating the scene as if more suspects could be on the loose.
“We’re not ruling anything out in this scenario,” Fitzgerald said.
The shooting came hours after a man died in a barrage of gunfire Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of a Birmingham apartment complex.
Shots rang out at 3:51 p.m. at Park at Wood Station apartments. That is in the 6000 block of Wood Station Drive, which is off First Avenue South in Woodlawn.
