Two people were killed in separate weekend traffic crashes, one in Mountain Brook and the other in western Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victims as Robert Ashley May Jr., 30, and Kyle Clayton Laney, 23.

May, of Puyallup, Washington, was critically injured in a single-vehicle crash at 1:38 p.m. Saturday in the 3900 block of Montclair Road.

Authorities said his vehicle left the roadway.

He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:30 p.m.

Mountain Brook police are investigating.

Laney, of Bessemer, also left the roadway in his vehicle.

The wreck happened at 2 a.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of Warrior River Road. Laney was pronounced dead on the scene at 3:04 a.m.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.
