2 killed in Mobile crash after vehicle stalls on I-65
Two people died early Saturday after their vehicle stalled while merging into traffic on Interstate 65 in Mobile and was struck by another vehicle, Mobile police said.
The incident occurred about 4 a.m. near the Airport Boulevard southbound entrance ramp to I-65.
Police said its preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a vehicle entering the interstate lost control, causing the vehicle to stall. It was then struck by another vehicle. Two male victims died in the car that stalled, police said. Police identified one of the victims, the driver, as 38-year-old Ronald Jones. The passenger’s identity has not been released pending notification of the family, police said.
The vehicle that struck the stalling vehicle became engulfed in fire but the driver escaped and was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the driver of the vehicle that struck the stalled vehicle showed no signs of impairment.
