2 killed in east Alabama rollover crash
Two people were killed in a Thursday-afternoon crash in east Alabama.
Alabama State Troopers identified one of the victims as 21-year-old Brittney D. Hayes of Piedmont. The second fatality victim was 18 years old and from Georgia, but troopers don’t release the names of teens.
The single-vehicle wreck happened at 4:30 p.m. on Cherokee County Road 175, about five miles north Piedmont, said Senior Trooper Brandon Bailey.
Both fatality victims were passengers in a 2003 Ford Explorer that left the road, struck a mound of dirt and overturned. Neither were wearing seat belts, Bailey said.
Both were ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver, 20-year-old Cameron Drummond of Georgia, and another passenger, 22-year-old Blake Broome of Piedmont, were injured. They were taken to Regional Medical Center Hospital.
The investigation is ongoing by troopers.
