An early-morning crash in Birmingham left two people dead.

The wreck happened at 1:13 a.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Springville Road, according to Birmingham police.

Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said a man and a woman died in what was possibly a head-on collision. The victims names have not yet been released.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Lt. Catina Williams said one of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene. The second victim had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to UAB Hospital.
