A man and a woman were killed late Monday in a crash with an 18-wheeler in Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is withholding the victims’ names pending notification of their family, but said they were a 69-year-old man and a 72-year-old woman.

The wreck happened at 10:36 p.m. in the 2100 block of Montevallo Road S.W.

Authorities said the male victim was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Impala that was involved with a collision with the 18-wheeler. The female was a passenger in the Impala.

No other details were released.

Both victims were pronounced dead on the scene at 11:06 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing by Birmingham police.
