2 killed, 5 airlifted after east Alabama head-on wreck

Two women were killed and five other victims were airlifted to hospitals after a head-on crash Wednesday afternoon in east Alabama, authorities said Thursday.

Amber J. Scott, 34, of Roanoke, was driving a 2017 Dodge Journey that collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Highlander around 4:42 p.m. Wednesday on Alabama State Route 22 near the 162-mile marker, about one mile east of Roanoke in Randolph County, said Cpl. Reginal M. King with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Scott and her passenger, 61-year-old Roanoke resident Marcia E. Diggs, were pronounced dead at the scene, King said.

The driver of the Highlander and four of their passengers were injured and airlifted to local hospitals with unknown injuries.

Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued to investigate the wreck.
