A head-on crash on Bankhead Highway has left two people dead.

The collision happened at 11:49 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of Bankhead Highway, not far from Cherry Avenue and Family Dollard.

Witnesses said a pickup truck was traveling eastbound and crossed over into the westbound lane, striking one vehicle. That car was spun around by the impact, but the driver is OK.

The truck then continued traveling the wrong way in the westbound lane, hitting at least a couple more vehicles.

Two people were pronounced dead at the scene. A third person was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
