Gunfire erupted at a Birmingham intersection Saturday afternoon, leaving two people injured.
The shooting happened at 3:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Fifth Avenue North near the Chevron gas station, just off I-65.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said police arrived to find two men wounded inside a vehicle that had stopped in the roadway.
One of the victims sustained critical injuries. The second victim is expected to be OK.
Fitzgerald said investigators believe another vehicle pulled up to the victims’ vehicle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.
No arrests have been made.

“Today has been an extremely violent day in our city,’’ Fitzgerald said. “Many of these shootings have been targeted.”
