2 Florida men accused of using fake $100 bills at Alabama mall
Foley police said they arrested two Florida men Thursday for allegedly passing counterfeit $100 bills at the Tanger Mall in Foley.
The ongoing investigation suggests counterfeit bills also may have been passed at stores outside Foley, police said.
Michael Anthony Washington, 41, and Derick Melendez Ned, 47, both from Tampa, Florida, were charged with one count each of organized retail theft and three counts each of possession of a forged instrument, all felonies.
Police said the two men would buy inexpensive items with counterfeit $100 bills and receive real currency as change. When arrested they had another 40 counterfeit $100 bills, police said.
Police ask store owners who believe they may have gotten counterfeit money to contact their local law enforcement agency. For more information, call the Foley Police at 251-943-4431.
