2 dead, at least 1 wounded in shooting in Birmingham’s Avondale community
A shooting in south Birmingham left two people dead, and at least one other injured.
Multiple shots rang out about 11 a.m. Friday in the 4300 block of Fifth Avenue South.
Two people are dead on the scene, at least one of them in the parking lot of a small apartment building. Another person was rushed to UAB Hospital.
According to police radio communications, the suspect fled in an SUV. The initial dispatch said the suspect or suspects may have been wearing masks.

It’s been a deadly week in the city.
On Thursday, a 26-year-old woman, reportedly pregnant, was fatally shot during an argument outside a west Birmingham home. Earlier Thursday, a 40-year-old man was killed in the city’s Fountain Heights community.
Midday Wednesday, a 15-year-old girl was killed and her 5-year-old brother wounded during a domestic shooting in downtown Birmingham.
On Tuesday, a man was gunned down inside his vehicle in Birmingham’s College Hills neighborhood.
Saturday, a shootout on the city’s busy First Avenue North in front of East Lake Park left a 19-year-old dead, and two other people injured.
Today’s fatal shooting marks the city’s 73rd and 74th homicides in the city. Of those, seven have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 99 homicides, including the 74 in Birmingham.
