2 convicted felons indicted on federal charges in holdups at Birmingham businesses
Two Birmingham men have been indicted on federal robbery charges.
The six-count indictment against Dedrick Deon Taylor, 31, and Dominic Bimbow, 29, were announced Thursday by Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples.
Both men are convicted felons, authorities say. They are charged with two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery, two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and each with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
They also face multiple robbery charges in state court.
The Hobbs Act prohibits actual or attempted robbery that affects interstate commerce and that involves the taking of property from another person by means of actual or threatened force or violence.
According to the indictment, on April 14, 2022, Taylor and Bimbow committed two armed robberies at businesses in Birmingham on April 14, 2022. The businesses were the Citgo convenience on Bankhead Highway and a Dollar General located on Fifth Avenue South.
The maximum penalty for Hobbs Act Robbery is 20 years in prison. The maximum penalty for brandishing of a firearm during a crime of violence is a mandatory minimum of seven years to life in prison. The maximum penalty for being a felon in possession of a firearm is 10 years in prison.
The FBI investigated the case along with the Birmingham Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alan Baty is prosecuting the case.
