2 charged with capital murder in killing of Eufaula 15-year-old
Two suspects have been charged in the weekend shooting death of a Eufaula teen.
Gavin Lebron Martin, 18, and Jamichael Trevon Leonard, 18, are charged with capital murder in the Sunday shooting death of Zyaire Kayon Hill. They are also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.
Eufaula Police Chief Danny Christ said in a press release that officers were dispatched to Medical Center Barbour at 3:01 p.m. Sunday on a report of a gunshot wound.
Zyaire was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities said Zyaire was in a vehicle when he was shot.
Christ said two more shooting incidents happened at 9:44 p.m. and 10:22 p.m. Sunday In both cases, multiple rounds were fired into two separate homes. No one was injured.
The chief said investigators believe the shootings were linked to Zyaire’s death.
Eufaula City Schools were closed Monday through Wednesday, following the fatal shooting.
“We have continued to monitor the events that have tragically affected our community,’’ a new statement read. “After careful consideration and conversations with local law enforcement, we will remain closed on Wednesday, January 10th.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have been affected by these tragic events,’’ the statement read.
Zyaire’s funeral is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Springhill Road in Eufaula.
The investigation is ongoing.
