Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service crews responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday to the Sun Inn in the 1500 block of Bessemer Road.

Sgt. Monica Law said the young girl was shot in the abdomen. She was taken to Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

The girl’s father was shot in the arm. He was treated and released from Baptist Princeton Baptist Medical Center.

Authorities said robbery was a possible motive.

The suspects fled the scene in a vehicle.

With assistance from the department’s Real Time Crime Center, Law said, the suspect vehicle was seen entering the Kimbrough Homes public housing community shortly after the shooting.
