2 charged in Chilton County road-rage shooting that wounded motorist

Two people have been charged following a road-rage shooting in Chilton County that wounded another motorist.

Gary Ledlow, 47, and Ashley Ledlow, 43, are charged with aggravated assault and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Additionally, Gary Ledlow is charged with possession of dangerous drugs and Ashley Ledlow is charged with possession of methamphetamine, jail records show.

Deputies and Clanton police were dispatched shortly after 2 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Interstate 65 southbound and the 212 exit, which is for the rest area, on a report of shots fired.

The victim, said Sheriff John Shearon, made the 911 call.

The suspects and the victim both took the 212 exit, turning southbound on Highway 45 and then onto Bell Lane Road.

Shearon said the victim sought medical treatment at St. Vincent’s Chilton for a gunshot wound/graze to the neck and chin area.  The victim’s injury is not life-threatening.

The Ledlows are being held in the Chilton Couty Jail.

“It is unfortunate that individuals resort to firearm use in moments of anger, resulting in someone being shot,’’ Shearon said. “Once a bullet is fired, its impact cannot be undone, affecting lives irreversibly.”

Shearon asked that anyone traveling southbound on I- 65 near the 217-mile marker at the time of the incident and who may have witnessed anything to contact investigators at 205-755-4698.
