2 arrested after man is robbed in Birmingham while buying car advertised on Facebook
Two people are behind bars after police say a man was robbed at gunpoint during a supposed car sale brokered on Facebook Marketplace.
Briana Bonds, 23, and Earron Bryant, 28, are charged with first-degree robbery, Birmingham police announced Friday.
Just after 8 p.m. Tuesday, East Precinct officers responded to an armed robbery call in the 700 block of 81st Place South.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said once they arrived, they spoke with a man who told he went to the address to by a 2015 Chrysler 200 he saw advertised on the social medial platform.
The seller, a woman, requested cash payment.
When the man arrived, he was robbed.
Patrol officers launched an immediate investigation, which led to them to the 7500 Block of 67th Courtway South. Bonds and Bryant were taken into custody at that location.
After being interviewed by detectives, the suspects were booked into the Birmingham City Jail on a 48-hour hold pending the ongoing investigation.
The Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office then issued the robbery warrants.
Police want the public to be reminded that all four police precincts, as well as BPD headquarters, can be used as an online purchase safe meeting spot.
