2 Alabama women critical after being struck by 2 vehicles on Florida highway
Two women from Brewton were struck by two vehicles while attempting to cross a highway in the Florida Panhandle Thursday night.
The women, ages 34 and 53, were crossing Highway 29 near Rudolph Street in Escambia County (Fla.) about 8:30 p.m. when a pickup truck struck the 34-year-old even as the truck swerved to avoid them, the Florida Highway Patrol said in a release. The 34-year-old landed in the roadway and the 53-year-old rushed to her side.
But an SUV didn’t see the women in the roadway in time and struck the 53-year-old.
Both women were airlifted in critical condition to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.
The drivers were also Alabama residents, with the driver of the truck a 36-year-old Flat Rock man, while the SUV driver was a 71-year-old Brewton man. Both were uninjured, as were the three passengers in the pickup truck.
