2 Alabama men plead guilty in thwarted Michigan murder-for-hire scheme

Two Mobile men have admitted to their role in a murder-for-hire scheme in Michigan which was thwarted by law enforcement before the intended victim could be found, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in eastern Michigan.

Court documents show that Julius K. Jordan and Reginald L. Hunter were contacted by a person identified only a “Person 1″ in early February 2022, asking them to travel to Flint, Mich., to kill someone Person 1 accused of killing his “little brother,” a man named Dennis Denard Thomas.

Thomas was not a relative of Person 1, but rather an associate.

Thomas had been shot and killed a day earlier.

Person 1 sent money for Jordan and Hunter to use to rent a car to travel to Michigan and provided weapons when they arrived, the documents show.

On Feb. 15, 2022, as Jordan and Hunter drove around looking for their target, Jordan drove through a stop sign and was pulled over Michigan State Police troopers. During the stop, the troopers spotted assault rifles inside the vehicle — one on the floorboard near Jordan’s feet and another near Hunter’s feet.

Hunter and Jordan were jailed on weapons charges, and recorded conversations from the jail with other individuals revealed the plot to kill their intended victim.

Jordan had previously pleaded guilty and was sentenced to nearly 16 years in federal prison. Hunter pleaded guilty Friday and is scheduled for sentencing on May 28. The investigation into “Person 1″ continues, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

“These defendants were hired guns who agreed to end someone’s life for money, but the outstanding work of the Michigan State Police undoubtedly saved a life,” said U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison.
