2 Alabama basketball signees earn McDonaldâs All-American roster spots
Two Alabama men’s basketball signees were named to the rosters for the 2024 McDonald’s All-American game Tuesday. Both Aiden Sherrell and Derrion Reid, teammates at Prolific Prep in Napa, Calif., will suit up for the West team.
On Tuesday, ahead of the Crimson Tide’s Wednesday matchup with Auburn at Coleman Coliseum, Oats was asked about the future UA players earning the honor.
“They’re really good players,” Oats said. “We’re super excited to get them both here. It’s supposed to be the best 24 players in high school basketball, it’s nice to have two of them. You have more talent, it’s easier to be a good coach because you’ll win games.”
Sherrell is a 6-foot-11, 220-pound center for Prolific Prep. He is rated as a five-star prospect by the 247Sports composite, which has him as the No. 4 center in the class of 2024.
Reid is a small forward for Prolific Prep, standing 6-foot-7 and weighing in at 180 pounds. He is also a 247 composite five-star recruit and is ranked as the No. 12 player in the nation.
Hailing from Augusta, Ga., Reid chose Alabama over his home state Bulldogs, as well as Florida State. Sherrell picked the Tide over Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and Michigan State.
The McDonald’s All-American game is scheduled for April 2 in Houston. The Crimson Tide will be back in action Wednesday, facing Auburn in Tuscaloosa.
That game will be aired on ESPN at 6:30 p.m. CT.
