2 Alabama basketball players named to All-SEC teams

Alabama men’s basketball earned two spots across the All-SEC teams released Monday.

Guard Mark Sears was named to the All-SEC first team. Guard Labaron Philon was named to the All-SEC freshman team. Both are in-state products: Sears is from Muscle Shoals and Philon is from Mobile.

Sears is Alabama’s leading scorer again this season, averaging 19.2 points per game. That ranks second behind Texas’ Tre Johnson, who averaged 20.2 in the regular season.

This marks the second consecutive year in which Sears has earned a spot on the All-SEC first team. He also was named to the All-SEC second team in 2023, his first season with the Crimson Tide.

Philon has averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game this season. He leads Alabama in assists with 1.3 per game.

Outside of Sears and Philon, no other Alabama players or coaches earned a spot on the conference awards list this year.

The Crimson Tide will play in the SEC Tournament this week as the No. 3 seed. The Crimson Tide will play either No. 6 seed Kentucky or No. 11 seed Georgia/No. 14 seed Oklahoma on Friday, likely around 8:30 p.m. CT in Nashville. Georgia and Oklahoma will play Wednesday, and the winner will face Kentucky. The winner of that game will then face Alabama.
