Jailen Lupton, 18, was arrested and charged Saturday in the beating death of her grandmother, 70-year-old Diane Trest, in Irvington.

WKRG reported that officials responded to a medical emergency on Beverly Road where Trest was found unresponsive in the front yard with head trauma and a mallet near her.

Officials said witnesses told them Lupton “forced her way into her home, pushed [the witness] down, and demanded car keys, claiming she had just killed her grandmother,” according to reports from WKRG.

Lupton has been charged with murder and second degree burglary, according to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office jail records.
