16-year-old sought on capital murder warrants in shooting death of 40-year-old Sylacauga woman
Authorities are searching for a 16-year-old boy in the shooting death of a 40-year-old Sylacauga woman.
Jamir De’Jawn “JD” Russ is charged with two counts of capital murder in the slaying of Temekia Fluker.
The warrants were issued for charges of shooting from a vehicle and shooting into an occupied residence, both resulting in Fluker’s death, Sylacauga Police Chief Kelley Johnson announced Monday.
The deadly shooting was the second in two years at the same home. Authorities said Fluker was not the intended target.
The shooting happened one week ago today – Feb. 26 – at 306 South Main Avenue.
Officers arrived to find Fluker dead inside her home. She had been shot at least once.
Investigators worked throughout the night taking statements from witnesses and collecting evidence from the crime scene.
Johnson said several rounds had been fired into the home, striking Fluker.
The chief said Fluker’s death is the second murder that has happened at or near the residence involving a member of the Fluker family.
On July 1, 2022, 22-year-old, Nartavius Cortez Fluker-Smith was shot and killed while sitting in his vehicle in front of this residence. He was Fluker’s brother.
In the earlier case, 19-year-old Sheridan Rashon Clark is awaiting trial for capital murder and remains held without bond.
Johnson said Fluker’s murder “deeply saddened and shocked the community.”
“The loss of Tamekia Fluker is a tragedy that has deeply affected our community,’’ Johnson said. “Our department has been working tirelessly to investigate this case.”
“Any information, no matter how small it may seem, could be crucial in helping to bring closure to the family of Tamekia Fluker and ensuring that justice is served,’’ Johnson said.
