16-year-old charged with Huntsville capital murder identified

A 16-year-old charged with capital murder following a fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon in Huntsville has been identified.

WHNT, citing court documents, said Torres Juelz McCray was charged with capital murder for killing Phillip Wayne Fletcher.

According to court documents, McCray used a semi-automatic AR styled assault pistol in the shooting that left one person dead and two others wounded.

Huntsville police said Wednesday an investigation into the shooting on Max Luther Drive at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday is continuing, and other arrests are expected.

According to police, an officer responded to Huntsville Hospital after three gunshot victims arrived for treatment.

One of the victims, Fletcher, died at the hospital. Another was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the shooting involved juveniles in two vehicles on Max Luther Drive, just west of Washington Street.

Investigators believe a dispute between the juveniles that began before Tuesday led to the incident. Just prior to the shooting, the victims were followed from the area of Blue Spring Road and Sparkman Drive to Max Luther Drive, when the incident happened.

Officers dispatched to the scene recovered ballistic evidence. Less than two hours later, police found the vehicle suspected in the incident.

The two juvenile occupants were detained and interviewed. McCray was charged with capital murder and the other was released, police said.
