15-year-old boy shot to death inside east Birmingham home
A young teen was shot to death early Sunday inside an east Birmingham home.
Police identified the victim as Markell Sanders. He was 15.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade said the boy’s mothers called 911 at 12:16 a.m. saying her son had been shot.
When officers arrived at the house in the 4200 block of 39th Avenue North, they found the teen unresponsive inside the residence. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.
Wade said details are limited. Detectives are interviewing family members to determine what happened.
No arrests have been made.
Sanders is Birmingham’s fifth homicide this year. In all of Jefferson County, there have been seven homicides, including the five in Birmingham.
