14-year-old girl grazed by bullet in suspected accidental shooting

A teen girl sustained minor injuries in a Friday night shooting in Birmingham.

Birmingham police and Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded at 8:30 p.m. to a report of a person shot in the 1700 block of 32nd Street North.

BFRS Battalion Chief Clay Hendon said the victim was transported to Children’s of Alabama.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the victim is a 14-year-old girl who was grazed by gunfire. She may have been injured while a different juvenile was playing with a gun, he said.

The investigation is ongoing.

It was the second shooting Friday involving a teen victim.

A 15-year-old boy was critically injured when someone opened fire on him while he was walking on a southwest Birmingham street. Police said the shooting was targeted.
