14-year-old girl charged in fatal shooting of man outside Birmingham paper company where he worked
A 14-year-old girl has been charged in the shooting death of a man killed earlier this month outside a west Birmingham paper and packing supply company.
Lekilo Mason Cummings, 33, was killed July 2 outside of Athens Paper, where he worked and while he was on a break.
Police on Thursday said the young teen’s name and additional details are being withheld because of her age. She was taken into custody July 20 by Birmingham officers and taken to the G Ross Bell Youth Detention Center.
West Precinct officers responded just before 5:30 p.m. that Sunday to the 2700 block of Republic Boulevard on a report of a person shot.
Police arrived in the parking lot of Athens Paper to find Cummings unresponsive. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Sgt. LaQuitta Wade at the time said investigators believe a domestic altercation took place in the parking lot which led to the fatal shooting.
