14-year-old charged with capital murder in fatal shooting of Montgomery high school junior
A 14-year-old is charged with capital murder in last week’s shooting death of a Carver High School junior in Montgomery.
The young suspect, whose name is not being released because of his age, is charged in the Dec. 27 slaying of a 17-year-old, identified by WSFA as Timothy “TJ” Crawford Jr.
Police and fire medics responded to the 2100 block of Rexford Road around 4:30 p.m. that Wednesday on a report of a person shot, said Maj. Saba Coleman.
Officers arrived to find the Crawford wounded. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“We are incredibly saddened to learn of the loss of yet another young soul in our community,’’ Montgomery City Schools superintendent Melvin Brown said following Crawford’s death. “We have to change our attitudes and levels of respect for humanity. Far too often we seek quick and devastating responses to conflict.”
A motive has not been disclosed.
Coleman said the 14-year-old was taken into custody Wednesday. He is being held in the Montgomery County Youth Detention Center.
