14-year-old boy shot dead in ‘very tragic hunting accident’ in Alabama

A 14-year-old Tennessee boy died after he was shot on an Alabama nature preserve in what authorities are calling a “very tragic hunting accident.”

The teen, from Pleasantville, Tennessee, was shot on the Sugar Foot Hunting Preserve near Highway 183 in Perry County on March 6, said Bibb County Coroner Patrick Turner.

The teen was taken to Bibb Medical Center in Centreville, where he was pronounced dead, the coroner said.

“Everything’s leading to this being a very tragic hunting accident,” Turner told AL.com.

The boy was with his family, who were in Scott Station, in Perry County, for a construction project when the property owner led the teen, his father and others on a feral hog hunt.

A loaded rifle accidentally discharged, hitting the teen in his chest.
