A 14-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital Sunday night after he was shot in the Center Point area.
Center Point Fire medics and Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just after 10 p.m. to the 2400 block of Fifth Street N.W.
Medics transported the boy to Children’s of Alabama with several gunshot wounds, at least one of them to the side. His condition was not immediately available.
Efforts to obtain additional information about the shooting from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office were not successful.
Friends and family of the boy gathered outside of the hospital late Sunday night waiting for word on his condition. He was expected to be taken into surgery.
The teen is one of three children shot in Jefferson County on Sunday.
An 11-year-old boy and his father were seriously wounded when someone opened fire on them Sunday afternoon on Cullman Avenue in west Birmingham. Both were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
Then, about 9 p.m., an 8-year-old girl was shot multiple times when she was in a vehicle with one of her parents and got caught in crossfire during which at least 70 rounds were fired.
She was taken to Children’s of Alabama with serious injuries. Police radio communications indicated she was shot in the head, but authorities did not confirm the location of her wounds.
No arrests have been made in any of the shootings.
