135 Alabama jobs cut as customer communications management company closes Birmingham facility

A national customer communications management company is closing its Birmingham production facility, eliminating 135 jobs.

OSG made the announcement Tuesday night about its facility at 5200 East Lake Blvd.

OSG Chief Marketing Officer Sarah Guckes told AL.com that economic conditions did not factor into the decision.

In a statement on the announcement, OSG said the decision was “part of a strategic initiative to optimize our operations and continue delivering exceptional services and solutions to our clients.”

“OSG remains financially stable and fully committed to investing in our facilities, employees, and the communities we serve,” the company announced in a statement. “This decision reinforces our dedication to innovation, efficiency, and delivering best-in-class solutions to our clients.”.

OSG’s Birmingham employees along with local authorities were given notice of the decision in compliance with the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act.

“We are committed to supporting our Birmingham employees during this transition, offering severance packages, outplacement services, and other resources to assist them,” the company stated.

Guckes said the closure impacts 135 jobs.

The production work performed at the Birmingham facility will be conducted at “newer, state-of-the-art facilities” in Carol Stream, Illinois, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Mount Airy, North Carolina.

“These facilities are equipped with advanced technology and infrastructure, enabling enhanced operational performance, expanded capabilities, and a superior customer experience,” OSG stated.
