13-year-old killed, toddler among 2 children hurt after Alabama ATV accident

A 13-year-old died a week after being ejected from an all-terrain vehicle during a crash in south Alabama that also left a toddler and a 6-year-old child injured, authorities said Wednesday.

The 13-year-old victim, who was not publicly identified, was driving a 2016 Honda Pioneer ATV around 1:15 p.m. Feb. 17 in Conecuh County when the ATV left the roadway and overturned, said Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Senior Trooper Joshua Thompson.

The teen was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected, Thompson said.

The 13-year-old was taken to a local hospital where they died of their injuries Monday.

Two children, ages 1 and 6, were passengers in the ATV and were injured, Thompson said. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Wide Road near Paradise Road, about 15 miles north of Evergreen.

Further information was unavailable as state troopers continued investigating the crash.
