Muscle Shoals police have arrested a 13-year-old who they say was responsible for a threat made against Muscle Shoals City Schools.

According to Police Chief Clint Reck, investigators became aware of a screenshot of a text message at about 8:05 p.m. Monday regarding a threat to schools.

Working with the school system, investigators took the juvenile into custody at about 9:31 p.m. Monday.

The juvenile, whose name was not released, was turned over to juvenile authorities, Reck said.

Police have determined there is no “credible evidence of an active threat,” Reck said.

“We take any potential threat to our public school system very seriously; therefore, we strongly encourage parents to speak with their children concerning the consequences of their actions,” he said, in a statement.
