A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital after he was shot in the head Monday afternoon in north Alabama, police said.

The incident occurred around 2p.m. in Ider, the town’s police department said Monday evening.

Ider officers responded to a call of a 12-year-old child with a gunshot wound to the head, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene to find the young boy wounded,

The victim was transported to a hospital via MedFlight, the department said.

“We just ask that everyone please pray for this young boy,” police said.

The investigation was ongoing as of Monday evening.

Police said there was no threat to the public.
