107 arrests reported at 2023 Hangout Fest; total down from 2022

Law enforcement agencies say they made 107 arrests at or near the Hangout Music Fest over the weekend, with possession of controlled substances by far the most common charge.

The number of arrests is down from 133 last year. Based on organizers’ reports that 90% of the available tickets had been sold, about 36,000 people had tickets to the event, which took place May 19-21 in Gulf Shores.

A report provided by the Gulf Shores Police Department lists a total of 107 arrests made by the Gulf Shores PD and the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. Those arrests resulted in 148 charges, 109 of which were for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Additionally there were two charges of distribution of a controlled substance and 15 of second-degree marijuana possession.

Eight people were charged with second-degree criminal trespass and four with public intoxication. Other charges include two for attempts to elude officers, two for resisting arrest and one each for third-degree escape, third-degree assault, possession of a forged instrument, exposure or public lewdness, third-degree criminal trespass and obstructing government operations.

Overall, the two agencies charged people with 89 felonies and 17 misdemeanors.
