10-year-old killed in weekend crash on I-22; 3 others injured including toddler

A 10-year-old was killed in a single vehicle weekend crash in Marion County.

The wreck happened at 6:55 a.m. Sunday on Interstate 22, about one mile west of Brilliant.

Alabama State Trooper Cpl. Reginal King said the child, who lived in Mississippi, was a passenger in a Nisan Versa. The vehicle left the roadway and struck an embankment.

The 10-year-old was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle, 31-year-old Raymoni L. Gordon of Tupelo, was injured, as were passengers 36-year-old Shuntalisha D. Metcalf and a 1-year-old old.

Troopers do not release the names of juvenile fatality victims.

The investigation is ongoing.
