10 things to know about Bonnaroo before you go

Gather your ‘Roo crew – it’s almost time! Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival 2024 takes place June 13-16 at the farm, now known as Great Stage Park, in Manchester, Tenn.

The multi-day, multi-stage festival will feature Pretty Lights, Fisher, Post Malone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Megan Thee Stallion, Jason Isbell, Carly Rae Jepsen, Diplo and Brittany Howard.

You can choose to camp onsite at the farm but keep in mind there is no shade, unless you happen to be staying in the media section.

You can also find an RV park in the area, or choose lodging from Hotels.com. Need a temporary RV? Try RVshare.com.

Heavy rains from Hurricane Ida have forced Bonnaroo to cancel as organizer say the waterlogged festival grounds are unsafe for driving or camping. On social media, the festival said on Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021, that tremendous rainfall over the last 24 hours, remnants of Ida’s powerful winds and rain, have saturated the paths and camping areas. Here are a few tips we learned from attending the festival:

1. It will be hot – exceptionally hot – so be prepared if you plan to camp on the shade-free grounds. Pack yoga clothes, swimsuit tops and sweat-wicking underdrawers. Pack coolers filled with water or a liquid substance of your choice. Bring battery-operated fans. Bring tents for shade. Bring ice. Bring bags of frozen peas. Bring every frozen thing in your house. Then bring some more. Because it won’t be enough.

2. Lobster mac & cheese. Humpty’s Dumplings. Shrimp po’ boys.

3. You won’t be the oldest or youngest person there. You’ll see plenty of gray-haired retirees sporting fanny packs and black socks with sandals, as well as toddlers riding on their parents’ shoulders, among the thong-wearing, body-painted festivalgoers.

4. Bonnaroo is also an arts festival. Festivalgoers can buy handmade sandals, incense, tie-dyed T-shirts, henna tattoos, hammocks, furniture, hand-blown glass and more. Bring an extra bag and you can do all your Christmas shopping.

5. There is no way to make portable toilets pleasant and, unfortunately, there is no way to guarantee there will be paper inside when you finally get to the front of the line. Pro tip: Always have a bit of paper in your pocket. Or maybe a whole roll.

6. Wearing underwear on the outside of clothes is considered normal.

7. Wearing underwear with no other clothes is considered normal.

8. Wearing paint where underwear should be is considered normal.

9. Once it gets dark, watch for people who “fell asleep” on the ground so you don’t trip on them, although it might be nice to stop and be sure they’re okay.

10. Be happy and considerate. It’s part of the ‘Roo Code.

Oh, and there’s music, too – of every genre, on 10 stages!

And lots of fun activities – like the Ferris wheel, water slides, wacky parades, people watching, the Silent Disco and more. If this sounds like fun, be sure to grab your tickets on the secondary market. You can find single-day or multi-day passes at Vivid Seats | StubHub | Seat Geek | Ticketmaster.

Happy ’Roo-ing!
