A Friday afternoon crash in Chambers County left a Valley child dead.

Alabama State Troopers say the 1-year-old was a passenger in a Toyota Camry that was struck by a Mack tractor trailer driven by 51-year-old Christopher C. Caldwell of Alex City.

The wreck happened at 2:29 p.m. on Alabama 50, about two miles west of Lanett.

The child was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead a short time later. The driver of the Toyota, 79-year-old Patricia McCollough, of Lanett, was taken to East Alabama Medical for undisclosed injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by troopers.
