A Saturday shooting in Homewood left one woman dead and another behind bars.

The injured victim was found about 11:42 a.m. Saturday in the breezeway of an apartment complex in the 200 block of Robert Jemison Road, said Sgt. John Carr.

Police said the woman, whose name has not been released, was shot twice in the lower abdomen. She was taken to UAB Hospital where she was pronounced dead about 1 p.m.

The suspect, also a woman, was taken into custody by Homewood police shortly before 4:30 p.m. The arrest was made at a residence in the 1200 block of Circle Trail in Birmingham.

The suspect is in the Homewood City Jail and will undergo questioning.

The victim is Homewood’s first homicide this year.
